CERTI, initially named the Regional Foundation for Computing Technologies, was created on October. 31, 1984 in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina. It originated from the competencies and operations in industrial computing of the Technology Center of the Federal University at Santa Catarina, where it was located at Labmetro – the Metrology Laboratory of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, thanks to a long term cooperation agreement.
In addition to UFSC, 16 private and public companies and state and federal government agencies participated in the establishment of CERTI as Founding Members. CERTI is a private not for profit entity administered by a Superintendency, a Board of Curators and a Fiscal Board.
As an institution dedicated to Science, Technology and Innovation, CERTI was created with the mission to support companies in the development and modernization of their products and processes, with the application of computing technology. Activities of this nature are now known as Innovation, which is globally recognized as the key element in the competitiveness of companies and institutions.
Since 1990, CERTI has operated in its own facilities, on the UFSC campus in Florianópolis. To better serve the needs of the Brazilian market, it also established Technology Institutes in Manaus and Brasília. In its 25 years of operation, the Foundation, currently named the Reference Centers in for Innovative Technologies, has expanded its fields of operation far beyond industrial computing, and is recognized in Brazil and abroad for its vanguard projects, services, and projects.
